Ralph
S. Ives, well known Roxbury attorney, found recently near a spring below
Roxbury village a perfectly preserved stone hatchet, such as was used by the
Mohican Indians who formerly inhabited the vicinity while disputing for
territory with the Mohawk tribes. Mr.
Ives, who makes a specialty of gathering Indian relics, recently unearthed a stone
drill used by the aborigines. An Indian
village once stood on the flat below Roxbury village and there have been found
numerous pieces of Indian pottery.
